Supermodel Paulina Porizkova has split from her husband of almost 30 years. She made the shock announcement on social media on Wednesday.

The Car Has Broken Down

Porizkova took to Instagram to let fans know that she and The Cars ex-frontman, Ric Ocasek, have parted ways after 28 years of marriage. In fact, the iconic supermodel revealed that the two have been peacefully separated for the past year.

The two tied the knot back in 1989. The sad-but-sweet Instagram announcement compared their family, which includes two sons, to a well-built car that can drive anywhere. However, the couple can no longer work as one.

"Our family has always been -- and still is -- a well-built car. When the four of us are together, we can go wherever the road takes us. But as a bicycle, my husband and I no longer pedal in unison. So, we're ditching the bicycle," wrote Porizkova on her official page.

Still A Strong Family Unit

The 53-year-old fashion icon, who was born in what was then known as Czechoslovakia, confirmed that their family unit remains strong.

"The photos of our happy family are, in fact, happy family photos; we are just no longer a couple. The love we have for one another is so wide and deep it's practically intangible, and that sort of love can never disappear. Expect to keep seeing happy family photos," explained Porizkova.

She revealed that she and her family will not be making any further comments about the breakup.

"As I'm sure you can understand, out of respect for our children and each other, we'll not be commenting further (here or elsewhere) at this time," she ended the post firmly.

Porizkova first met Ocasek, 74, while filming the music video for The Cars hit song "Drive" back in 1984. The couple's last public appearance together was at Ocasek's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in Cleveland, OH, where the two coordinated in sparkly outfits and embraced each other happily, posing for pictures together. They have two adult sons, Jonathan and Oliver, which the model referred to in the initial Instagram post.

The supermodel was a judge on the hit reality show America's Next Top Model, appearing on cycles 10 to 12 and for memorably tussling with host Tyra Banks. Porizkova spoke about her unfair dismissal, only for Banks to fight back, claiming her fellow supermodel had too much ego to appear on the show.
