Neil Patrick Harris addressed the possibility of hosting the Oscars telecast in the future according to a Friday report from E!Online.

E! asked Harris when he would be hosting the awards show at the recent opening of Michael Jackson One in Las Vegas.

"When they ask me?" Harris simply replied. "Someday. Who knows?" The How I Met Your Mother actor explained, "That's the kind of question if you say, 'No, I don't want to do it,' you look like a d--k. And if you say, 'I'm dying to do it,' you look like a d--k. So you're kind of left in the middle."

Harris has become a go-to host over the past few years, hosting the Tony Awards in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2013 in addition to the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2010. He will be hosting the Emmys again in September.

Harris also had a video chat with GoldDerby editors on June 26 in which he made similar comments.

He explained that hosting the Oscars traditionally makes you a "massive target" for post-show Oscar reviews, which he said tend to scrutinize the host. He also said that the Oscar producers may not pick him since he didn't have the "movie clout" they usually look for in a host.

Regardless, the 40-year-old actor admitted that hosting the Oscars would be a "bucket list-y thing I would jump at the chance to do," if given the opportunity.

The Oscars have had a variety of different hosts as of late, including solo hosts, Billy Crystal, Ellen DeGeneres, Hugh Jackman, Seth MacFarlane and Jon Stewart as well as co-host teams Alec Baldwin & Steve Martin and James Franco & Anne Hathaway. Some hosts were given good reviews (Hugh Jackman, Seth MacFarlane) while others were heavily criticized (James Franco & Anne Hathaway).

The 86th annual Oscar ceremony will air Mar. 2, 2014 on ABC.
