Britain is officially on baby watch as Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton await the birth of their first child.

The little boy or girl who will be third in line to the throne will be named His or Her Royal Highness, the Prince or Princess of Cambridge.

Middleton and William announced last December that a royal baby was on the way after the Duchess was admitted to a hospital after suffering from a rare morning sickness.

Media outlets have already marked their territory outside of St. Mary's hospital, as reports indicated that an armed police officer will appear on the steps of the hospital, which will be the first official sign that the royal baby is on its way.

The official announcement of the baby's birth will not be revealed via Twitter, but will be posted on the gate of Buckingham Palace. Once the bulletin is posted, the news of the baby can then be put on the internet.

Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty Magazine, said the Duke and Duchess were trying to maintain their privacy during this time.

"Privacy is key for Prince William as he saw the way his mother, Princess Diana, suffered at the hands of the paparazzi, and he wants to make sure this does not happen to his wife or his own children," Little told Reuters.

With the July 13 due date right around the corner, Middleton has been on maternity leave since last month. The Queen of Elizabeth has reportedly set aside a helicopter for William in north Wales just in case he needs to fly back to London if Middleton goes into labor while he is at work.

Meanwhile, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York recently said the entire royal family is anticipating the arrival the royal baby.

"Any new birth is brilliant news, isn't it? It's very exciting, very exciting, of course," Ferguson said at the Novak Djokovic Foundation gala event in London Monday.
