Ivan Reitman's son, Jason, penned a heartfelt message to honor his late father following his shocking death.

The film industry mourns after Reitman's family confirmed to the Associated Press that the legendary filmmaker died peacefully in his sleep at his Montecito home.

"We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always," his family said.

Although they already released a joint statement, Reitman's son, Jason, still has a lot to say that he dropped another heartfelt post.

On Monday, the 44-year-old "Juno" director shared a photo of him and his father on Instagram. He also took his time to say that he lost his hero when Reitman died.

Per Jason, his father came from a family of survivors, and his life lessons helped him turn his legacy into laughter.

Amid the dark time in their life, he thanked fans for their messages about his father. Jason also asked them to enjoy the late filmmaker's movies to make him happier than ever.

Aside from Jason, more people remembered Reitman and his legacy following his death.

Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group Tom Rothman said, "Tonight, the lady with the torch weeps, as do all of us at Columbia, and film lovers around the world. Ivan Reitman was an inseparable part of this studio's legacy, but more than that he was a friend."

"I am deeply saddened by the loss of Ivan' Reitman. Truly a great man and filmmaker who I had honor and privilege of knowing and working with. Deepest condolences to Jason and the entire family. May he RIP #jasonReitman," Ernie Hudson wrote.

Reitman first started his career through his comedy. He then produced the "National Lampoon's Animal House" in 1978 before directing comedy films like "Meatballs" and "Stripes."

When he started his "Ghostbusters" project, Reitman earned two Oscar nominations that recognized his skills as a producer and director of the flick. His son, Jason, followed his footsteps and directed the franchise's new film, "Ghostbusters: Afterlife."

Other flicks under his belt include "Kindergarten Cop," "Beethoven," "Junior." "Six Days, Seven Nights" and "Old School."

He was survived by his wife, Genevieve, and their three children.
