Charlize Theron's experience filming "Mad Max: Fury Road" was horrible - and not only because of the heat in Australia.

According to a new claim, Theron referred to co-star Tom Hardy as a "f-----g c---" on the set of their 2015 movie, and she had to request protection because she felt frightened by him.

The South African actress was thrilled to be a part of the latest "Mad Max" picture, directed by George Miller.

But the stormy relationship she had with Hardy was something she wasn't expecting on a film set where explosions were happening left and right.

According to Kyle Buchana's book "Blood, Sweat, and Chrome: The Wild and True Story of Mad Max: Fury Road," the two Hollywood stars allegedly got into very heated shouting matches, and at one point, Theron even called Hardy a "f-----g c--" after he made her and their crew wait on set for hours while Hardy got into character.

Theron reportedly had a female producer to accompany her at all times as "protection" against Hardy. She anticipated that with another woman in authority present, the supposedly hostile Hardy would start acting more appropriately on set.

They gradually warmed up to each other approximately halfway through filming.

Charlize Theron "didn't want to waste time on set," according to stunt double actress Natascha Hopkins.

After all, she was a new motherat the time of filming and was juggling her acting schedule with her duties as a mother to her infant.

However, the number of hours spent on set was always doubled, owing primarily to Tom Hardy, who is rumored to be constantly late.

A producer who was present throughout filming allegedly asked the blonde beauty if she wanted to get out and wander around, but she always allegedly responded, "No, I'm going to stay here."

The actress, according to the production crew, was attempting to make a point.

"She didn't use the restroom or do anything. She was just sitting in the War Rig."

After Theron labeled Hardy, it was revealed that the latter eventually came around and admitted that he was in over his head in a variety of ways.

The British actor reportedly stated that the pressure he and Theron were subjected to was intense.

Hardy also admitted that he believes Theron would have benefited from a "more seasoned" partner in him.

Tom Hardy was only brought in because Mel Gibson was unable to reprise his role as the titular character.
