With the rumor mills churning out every angle on the love triangle that is Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, and Pete Davidson, The Daily Show host Trevor Noah took a moment this week to bring a different perspective on the situation. In a quiet rant, Noah laid out the bigger problem - which many fail to address because of the wealthy status of those involved: Abuse towards women.

In an all-too-personal way, he relayed his opinion on how society, as a whole, has taken a turn for the worst in how we view the abuse Kanye has inflicted on his ex-wife and her new beau, even relaying abuse his own mother went through in his youth,

"One of the strangest things to try and wrap your head around, I find, especially in America, is when a story stops only applying to the, um... not the industry that it's in but sort of, like, the sector that it's in and when it- when it starts affecting everybody or speaking to everybody."

He goes on,

"- there are some stories that I feel transcend everything, and they speak to larger conversations. And I honestly think the-the Kim Kardashian/Kanye West/Pete Davidson situation is turning into that. It started very much in the world of tabloid, but I feel it's creeping and has crept into a world that more people need to pay attention to - but not for the reason you may think.

Over time, Kanye has gotten more and more belligerent in how he tries to get Kim back. Like when it started it was...some would say romantic. "Oh, I want you back" and you know, "Here are roses" and "This is my dream" -And some people are are like, "Oh, okay, it makes sense. You're trying to win someone back. We understand that." But over time it became more and more belligerent."

Noah talks about Kanye cutting off Davidson's head in a music video, which West calls 'his art' and 'that's all.'

"Now I do understand that art is therapy. I honestly understand that, right? But I also understand that therapy can be therapy.- Kanye West has told us that he struggles with his mental health."

He relates the rapper to Eminem, who used to talk about killing his ex-wife as a shtick - and we knew it was - then Noah says,

"With Kanye we don't know how to feel, we don't know how to worry. And I think Kanye doesn't seem to understand that...but there is also an element of a woman saying to her ex, 'Hey, please leave me alone.'"

He also discusses how we brush off the Kim situation because she "loves publicity" and is rich, paying no heed to the fact that she's still human and can still experience trauma.

Noah brings up the escalation of the situation, where Davidson leaked texts between he and Kanye, both lambasting the rapper and also wanting to hash it out like two adults who both suffer from mental health issues.

"What she is going through is terrible to watch, and shines a spotlight on what so many women go through when they choose to leave."

His point being, if a woman of Kim's status and money can't get away from an abusive relationship, what hope do normal women have to escape their abusers? Noah watched his own mother go through this sort of ordeal when he was a child, to a point where she was shot in the head.

"Women are questioned for what is happening to them as opposed to people questioning what is happening to them."

Trevor's words hit like a sledgehammer, shedding light on the struggle so many of us brush aside, victim blame, or simply don't get involved in until it is too late. Society has far too long lived under the guise that celebrities are these characters, and not people. They can buy their way out of situations, but it simply isn't so.

Abuse is real and takes so many shapes, but it is our job to stop being uncomfortable talking about it and instead begin doing more. The simple act of sympathy is a great start.

Well done, Trevor Noah. You can watch the full clip below.
