Michael Bay made the right move by skipping the Oscars this year and, honestly, he seems better for it. While being interviewed about his new film Ambulance, Kevin Polowy of Yahoo! asked Bay about his take on the Will Smith slap. The director instead brought up a more important topic,

"I don't really care. I wasn't watching. I saw it. First of all, it's wrong to begin with. I don't really care. Hollywood gets very self-absorbed. There are babies getting blown up in the Ukraine right now. We should be talking about that. I really don't care."

A sentiment, I'm sure, held by many who are getting weary of discussing a moment which, in hindsight, did nothing more than overshadow the hard work being celebrated by those who knew how to act at an elite award show. While others simply wonder what's next for Smith after this whole mess.

Michael Bay added this about Smith, who he has worked with twice with Bad Boys 1 and 2,

"I've worked with him. He's not that guy. I've never seen him lose his cool like that. I thought it was a set up because I saw his smirk. I've been on set when Will has screwed with people and joked with people. It was a slap. Not a punch. He's very good at fighting, he's trained at that. It's wrong to begin with. Then I knew the yell... he was mad."

The incident has put much of Will Smith's future work on hold for the time being, letting the smoke clear a bit. If we can learn anything from this mess, the heat of the moment will only burn you if you let it and sometimes the scars take a long time to heal.
