Dave Chappelle had a close call on stage last night when a hooded man rushed the stage and tackled the 48-year-old comedian.

During his set at the Hollywood Bowl for the Netflix Is A Joke Fest, the audience watched as an unidentified man took Chapelle, only to have the assailant dragged away by security.

Moments later, Dave gots to his feet and quipped, "It was a trans man," a callback to the controversial takes in his latest comedy special, The Closer which got him into hot water with the trans community.

According to NBC News L.A., The man was carrying a replica gun with a retractable knife built in.

The attacker was arrested and taken to the hospital - video of his capture shows his arm badly bent in the wrong direction.

Chappelle finished the show by bringing out Jamie Foxx. An audience member caught their exchange,

Chappelle: "Whenever you're in trouble, Jamie Foxx will show up in a sheriff's hat."

Foxx: "I thought that was part of the show."

After a few jokes about the assailant by Chappelle, Foxx got serious saying,

"Listen, I just want to say... this man is an absolute genius. We've got to make sure we protect him at all times. For every comedian who comes out here, this means everything. You're a genius. You're a legend, and we're not going to let nothing happen to you."

Chappelle calmly addressed the crowd as Foxx left the stage,

"Everybody compose yourselves."

Suffice it to say, this incident bears an uncanny resemblance to the Will Smith/Chris Rock slap, which means there was some credence to the worries that Smith was setting a bad precedent for those in the audience of shows - to give them the idea that they can attack a performer for whatever reason.

If you don't agree with a comedian's stance, don't watch them, grit your teeth, and leave. Not everything is for everyone. Do better, folks. This cannot continue.
