Last night, Kelsie Whitmore became the first woman ever to start on the field during an Atlantic League baseball game.

Kelsie Whitmore, a member of the professional baseball team the Staten Island FerryHawks, made history last night. On May 3rd, 2022, Whitmore became the first woman to start a game in the Atlantic League. Team manager Edgardo Alfonzo put her in the starting line-up for the game. She batted ninth, and played left field.

The event, while the first time in the Atlantic League, is among one of only a handful first times that a woman has started a game on a team in connection to Major League baseball.

Whitmore is a twenty-three-year-old player, who formerly played softball at Cal State Fullerton. She signed on to the Staten Island FerryHawks earlier this month.

From 2014-2019, Whitmore pitched for the U.S. Women's Baseball Team. While she has yet to pitch for her new team, the FerryHawks, she has been working with pitching coach Nelson Figueroa. We are sure that seeing her on the pitchers mound is not too far off.

Whitmore is an icon. Her ambition is ceasless, and her power is undeniable.

She also has big plans for the career ahead of her. She shared:

"Playing baseball at the highest level is my goal...You know, if you ask any other guy that's going to be in the league what his goal is, it's the same thing, to get to the next level and play at the highest level I could possibly play at...Eventually, I want to play in affiliated ball. I want to make this game my career, my living, and just, you know, be a part of it as much as I can."

We are sure New York - and the whole country - has not heard the last of Kelsie Whitemore.
