Xochitl Gomez, one of the stars of Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, has a lot of tough calls to make before appearing in the highly anticipated Marvel film.

First of all, Gomez had to make the difficult decision to leave her role on the Netflix series The Baby-Sitters Club, as the filming schedule of the Netflix series and the Marvel movie had exactly conflicting schedules. She spoke in an exclusive interview with Elite Daily about how truly trying that decision was for her.

"It was really tough...I grew up reading these books; I was a huge fan. I wanted to continue to play Dawn. But scheduling-wise...I just couldn't do it. I really tried to make it work."

Ultimately, however, the star made the decision to make the switch to the Marvel franchise; a role that presented even new challenges.

The MCU has a lot more physically complex work than many other productions. Sometimes these demands even came toe to toe with Gomez's real life fears.

"I actually have a fear of heights; that was something I had to get over."

She worked hard both to get through the scenes that frightened her and to build her stamina to keep up with the pace of the MCU without getting injured.

"People can get hurt; it's one of those things that you can't play around with. [I] did lots of strengthening exercises and ran every day, because obviously, there's lots of running."

Gomez is a talented and committed actress. Her appearance in the film is also a historic one, because she is the first Latina, lesbian teenager to take on the role of a Marvel superhero. She recognizes the significance of the representation she is providing for many on screen.

She recollected that when she was growing up, "rarely having representation on screen except for Selena Gomez and Dora."  But the tide is turning, and she's glad to be part of it.

"I'm proud of America Chavez, and I'm very excited to bring her to the MCU...What I love is that she's a leader and a problem solver; she just happens to be a lesbian, but it doesn't have to be the focus."

We can't wait to see her in all her amazing power in Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and beyond.
