Nobody leaves Baby in the corner, and, apparently nobody leaves Dirty Dancing in a corner either. The classic 1980s film is getting a sequel, starring Baby herself, Jennifer Grey.

In this upcoming sequel, we will get the same charm that we found in the original, with a very 1990s twist. An exclusive on Deadline announced the news earlier today, sharing that the filmmaker behind Long Shot and Warm Bodies, Jonathan Levine is behind the project.

Baby, played by Grey, will make her return to the ever iconic Kellerman's. Now, however, it is the 1990s.

This film will strike the same coming-of-age chord that made the movie iconic to begin with. Baby's storyline will weave in and out of the new romance of the new film.

It was of the utmost importance to the production team that they secure Jennifer Grey in casting. Levine shared:

"The most important thing for us was having Jennifer on board...She is an invaluable collaborator. We're going to try to involve as many people from the original as is appropriate. We want to be respectful in every way."

He wanted to make it abundantly clear that this film will respect the story of the first.

"This film exists in a dialogue with the original. We want to introduce this story to a whole new generation. That said, Johnny's absence looms large over the story, so it's a coming-of-age story but also a coming-of-age for Baby's character in a way."

We are excited to see how this time treasured story continues.
