In anticipation of Ms. Marvel's release on Disney+ on June 8, 2022, it was recently revealed in an article in Empire that the series' star Iman Vellani was so nervous about the virtual audition for Ms. Marvel that she finally hit record on her self-tape at three A.M. the night before the audition was due.

In a Tweet posted earlier today, the story behind Vellani's virtual audition was shared in snaps of a print article in an edition of Empire. The snippet reveals that Vellani had originally heard of the Ms. Marvel open casting call from her aunt. However, since Vellani was a Ms. Marvel super fan, she was so nervous about auditioning that she only brought herself to record her audition tape at three A.M. the night before the deadline.

After finally sending in her tape, Vellani's life then changed completely when she was invited to L.A. to record a screen test a couple days later. Vellani then flew out to L.A. with her father and learned about landing the role of a lifetime on her last day of high school.

Whew! What a journey, especially for a new actor! For those of you who saw the Ms. Marvel official trailer, then you know that Ms. Marvel (aka. Kamala Khan's) story seems to be the perfect fit for the young actress. Khan, also an ardent fan of superheroes, struggles to reconcile her identity after discovering that she has powers, knowing full well that it's not usually "the brown girls from Jersey City who save the world."

I don't know about you, but the more I learn about Vellani, the more I feel endeared to her Marvel journey. I'm looking forward to seeing her turn in Ms. Marvel, the MCU, and beyond.
