After revealing last month that West Side Story's Rachel Zegler will star in Lionsgate's upcoming The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, the studio dropped a teaser trailer to get fans hyped for The Hunger Games prequel.

Clocking in at about a minute and a half, the teaser trailer does little more than announce the film's release date in an attempt to drum up nostalgia about a series whose last installment dropped eight years before this one.

In the teaser trailer, we watch snow-laden branches slowly defrost to reveal a golden songbird resting on a golden branch with a golden snake wrapped around it. As the trailer unfolds, large text reads:

"You're invited to return to the Games. In 2023, the world will discover who is a songbird and who is a snake."

Finally, the title of the film fills the screen before the theatrical release date of November 17, 2023 is revealed with a flash.

As described by Deadline, the story from The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes "finds 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow as the last hope for his fading lineage, a once-proud family that has fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol."

"With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, the young Snow is alarmed when he is assigned to mentor Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray commands all of Panem's attention by defiantly singing during the reaping ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor.

"Uniting their instincts for showmanship and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy's race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird, and who is a snake."

Despite the film's release date of late next year, Lionsgate seems determined to capture fan attention early. However, with not much information released, fans will have to rely on the property's nostalgia factor to fuel their excitement until next year.
