The first image of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's baby Lilibet Diana has been revealed.

The photo was shot on her first birthday, over the weekend, during a backyard picnic.

According to their spokeswoman, the one-year-old redhead child sat on the lawn in a light blue outfit and a white bow on her head in a candid photo shot by close friend Misan Harriman last Saturday.

The modest party took place at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, where there was a cake by American baker Clair Ptak, who previously produced the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding cake in 2018.

Only close friends and family were invited to a picnic, face painting, and cake to commemorate the event.

A royal analyst, however, stated that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's posting of a photo of their daughter "speaks volumes."

Daniela Elser, writing for the NZ Herald, described how they had previously done things their way, avoiding sharing photographs of their children or just posting pictures that did not reveal their children's faces.

However, the Lilibet film's release date is reported to be a "surprising change of course" following the parents of two's "ice-cold vacation" to the UK for Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee.

"Lili's birthday aside, the four-day sojourn back in the UK was nothing short of a PR catastrophe for the pair, who the royal family ignored in the most humiliating - and transparent - way conceivable," Elser observed.

She went on to remark that it's tough to picture Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's homecoming as "anything short of calamitous."

"Lili's birthday aside," the writer said, "the four-day sojourn back in the UK was nothing short of a PR catastrophe for the pair, who the royal family ignored in the most humiliating - and transparent - way conceivable."

The publishing of the photo would also shift the couple's narrative away from their "embarrassing failure" and instead focus on Lilibet Diana's photo.

It was the first time the Duke and Duchess of Sussex came to the UK with their children, Archie Harrison, three, and Lilibet Diana, one.

Though the pair was in the UK from the first to the third day of the celebrations, they were not present at many of the Platinum Jubilee events. They even flew back to the United States one hour before the event closed on Sunday.
