If you're a horror fan and are looking for international fare, then rejoice!

Incantation, a Taiwanese horror film released theatrically back in March - that's not only the highest grossing film of the year but also earned the title "scariest Taiwanese film ever" - is landing on Netflix on July 8, 2022.

Following in the steps of other Taiwanese blockbusters like 2019's Detention, Incantation combines found footage, mockumentary styles to tell the story of a mother on a quest to save her young daughter, after she finds signs that an ancient curse she awakened years before may still be in effect.

Watch the terrifying trailer for an idea of Incantation's tone and storytelling:

Writer, producer, and director Kevin Ko told the Hollywood Reporter:

"I'm really proud that Incantation is going to be released on Netflix globally, maximizing the number of people who can watch it. It has always been my dream to make films that travel around the world and are watched by every horror fan on Earth, keeping them awake at night. I can't wait to hear viewers' reactions."

Incantation is very loosely based on a real incident in 2005, where a family of cult worshipers in Kaohsiung were supposedly possessed by spirits. In the real story, the family tortured each other for a month while under possession before the eldest daughter passed away from starvation.

Both a critical and commercial success, Incantation received seven Taipei Film Award nominations, including Best Narrative Feature, Best Director, and Best Actress. The film is currently the highest grossing film of 2022 in Taiwan, as well as the highest grossing original Taiwanese horror film of all time.

Are you excited to see Incantation? You don't have to wait long; it arrives on Netflix on July 8, 2022.
