Back in 1987, Arnold Schwarzenegger was pitted against a new kind of monster: A hulking alien who could blend into any environment, utilized heat vision, possessed a menagerie of high tech weaponry, and could hunt anyone and anything with stealth-like perfection.

Set in the steamy jungles of Central America, Predator quickly became one of the most interesting action franchises ever. Appearing in four films - and two spin-offs where they went head to head with the Alien franchise's big bad - the films were as hit-or-miss as they were exhilarating.

The trailer for Prey, a Hulu-produced addition to the Predator series, has now dropped, and it looks like it could be the most innovative film in the franchise since the first one; Director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane) has taken the concept of aliens hunting man and set it against the backdrop of the Comanche Nation 300 years in the past.

The plot focuses on Naru (Amber Midthunder), a young Comanche woman who is determined to prove herself as a hunter to the less than accepting men of her tribe - only to find out that she may be the only one who can defeat a creature who far out-guns her in every way.

Armed with primitive weapons and wilderness survival skills, Naru faces off against an adversary she could never have imagined.

Brilliant in concept, by simply boiling the story down to a winner-takes-all battle in the wilderness, Prey seems to be the closest narrative to the Arnold versilon so far. Stripped of the overproduced, convoluted plotlines of the sequels, the film feels like it is going back to the heart of what made the original so spectacular.

So, get excited Predator fans because, Prey will be streaming on Hulu on August 5.
