The Netflix series "The Chosen One" is facing the most heartbreaking event yet after two of its actors were killed following a recent accident.

Netflix detailed what happened through a statement to USA Today. According to the streaming giant, the cast and crew of the series were on their way from Santa Rosalia to the local airport on June 16.

The van they were in suddenly crashed near Mulegé on the Baja California Sur peninsula in Mexico, which left two actors dead and six others injured.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the Baja California Department of Culture confirmed the actors' identities on Friday, saying that Raymundo Garduño Cruz and Juan Francisco González Aguilar ultimately died in the crash.

The remaining six other injured victims include two actors and four crew members. All of them are currently stable.

"The Chosen One" production company, Redrum, paused the production of the series following the fatal crash. The series, which is based on Mark Millar and Peter Gross' comic-book series, tells the story of a 12-year-old boy who discovers that he is the return of Jesus Christ and is destined to save the world.

Millar previously worked at Marvel Comics, but he famously created several hits like "American Jesus," "Kick-Ass," and "Kingsman." His company, Millarworld, was acquired by Netflix in 2017 - a year before the company shared its plans to produce a TV series based on "American Jesus."

"The Chosen One" Accident Happened Due to THIS?

Cruz and Aguilar's friends broke their silence following the actors' deaths, telling The Daily Beast that the accident occurred due to poor transportation and logistics.

One of Aguilar's pals, Liliana Conlisk Gallegos, said, "It fills me with rage that there are reports of abuse and exploitation being shared by people involved with the production. I would like to demand that this is further investigated. If nothing wrong was going on, then there shouldn't be an issue with providing the information."

Netflix is yet to respond to Gallegos' demand. But it confirmed that a probe into the accident is currently underway.

Meanwhile, actor and director Fernando Bonilla expressed his concerns about how much rest the production's driver had that he lost control of the truck.

Their comments resonate with what other celebrities and series fans shared.
