Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 1 has proven that some things do get better with age.

We got to see the kids become teens and even go on separate adventures in different parts of the country - and, in the case of Hopper, Joyce, and Murray, another country altogether.

Coupled with gutsy violence and jumpscares galore, things are looking intense for the show's Season 4 finale. And the excitement doesn't stop there.

Tuesday morning, Netflix released the trailer for what's to come from The Upside Down, and damn if it isn't going big in the best ways.

The trailer plays as a bleak series of clips where the show's villain Vacna, a sinewy beast hellbent on destroying our world as we know it, threatens our heroes:

"It is over. Now I just want you to watch."

And watch we will! The trailer has everything from red lightning and flamethrowers to big explosions, and so much more.

There was a reason the studio was holding back on previewing the second half until now.

In an interview with THR, executive produce and director Shawn Levy had this to say when asked about the darker tone of the new season:

"I was occasionally nervous that the show was going so dark, it would be off-putting to the younger viewers that have flocked to our show. When we made season one, we thought this was a 13-and-over kind of viewing experience.

"What we now know is that kids as young as 9 and 10 are watching Stranger Things, and I knew that this season would be scary as shit for some of those viewers.

"The Duffers, to their credit, pointed out that every time we go darker, somehow our audience stays with us and grows. Though I don't have numbers yet on season four, I'm seeing what I saw in every prior season, which is the social media volume of engagement, of enthusiasm. And it feels like once again, going darker has far from hurt us.

"It might have helped us, because, as you say, the show and our audience is growing up and evolving along with our young stars."

Stranger Things Season 4 Vol. 2 drops on Netflix on July 1.
