A royal author recently opened up about Prince Harry's future after Queen Elizabeth II dies.

Prince Harry sparked multiple rumors about his potential return to the monarchy, especially when Queen Elizabeth II faced health issues. But a royal author recently said it is a "serious" possibility when the Queen dies since the royal family needs to revamp its image.

Speaking on the "Today in Focus" podcast, Tina Brown - who wrote "The Palace Papers" - said that the monarchy has been in deep trouble ever since the Sussexes left the UK and due to the emergence of Prince Andrew's abuse issue.

For Brown, the monarchy looks "skeletal" now after losing Prince Harry and Prince Andrew. The image could worsen because of Prince Charles' plans to slim down the monarchy.

"I think there is a great effort to try to make everybody focus on the heir, Charles, and William and Kate. But there is a lot of pressure on that," she said, adding, "I do think at a certain point they are going to need Harry back. Particularly probably after the Queen dies, because he was an asset."

Will Meghan Markle Also Go Back to the UK?

It was not the first time Brown commented on Prince Harry's potential return.

In her past interview with The New York Times podcast (via The News), she said that the royal family members would find a way to bring him back when Queen Elizabeth II dies.

She noted that there would always be a "Harry-shaped" hole in the royal family and that the British people always loved the Duke of Sussex especially before he married Meghan.

As for the Duchess of Sussex, the royal author dismissed the possibility of her getting back to the monarchy.

"And it's possible that Meghan - maybe they will have a commuter arrangement. I don't know. I don't see Meghan ever wanting to go back. She disliked England," she went on.

Prince Harry, regardless of Meghan's status, is subject to follow the law wherein the members are required to fill in the reigning monarch. He is also under that law, and it could require him to step in again once the Queen is not amenable to continue her duties or if she passes away.

Professor Vernon Bogdanor told The Guardian that more duties would be available as Queen Elizabeth gets older. Although Prince Harry has already lost his titles and patrons, he remains eligible to perform his duties once again once the law requires him to do so.
