Ioane "John" King, who notably appeared in "Spartacus," died. He was 49.

King's bereaved family first confirmed the news through a Facebook page dedicated to the New Zealand-born actor. According to his loved ones, he died on August 15 after his long battle against cancer.

The page, described as "Spartan's great battle," disclosed that the actor lost his life to adenocarcinoma cancer. Entertainment Weekly noted that the dreaded disease spread in his pancreas and other organs.

The post said: "John leaves a big hole in this world, having been a wonderful husband, father, son, brother, friend and human being. Those of us lucky to have met him will carry on with his legacy of kindness, positive influence, hard work and love."

The statement asked everyone to continue supporting the late actor's family amid the trying times.

Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter was the first site to confirm Ioane King's death on August 16.

Following his death, his colleagues and fans paid tribute to him and remembered his contributions to the industry.

King's "Spartacus" costar, Manu Bennett, shared a heartfelt Instagram post in which he acknowledged his brave fight against the dreaded illness.

According to the National Cancer Institute, adenocarcinoma occurs when cancer cells form in a patient's glandular tissue. It notes that the cancers of the breast, colon, stomach, uterus, pancreas, and lung - to name a few - are adenocarcinoma.

Before King's death, his family launched fundraising to cover his medical expenses while trying to beat the disease.

The last update was posted on May 24 when King underwent his fourth round of chemotherapy. The page revealed that the actor was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma in January and began his treatments in March.

King left a lasting legacy, especially his performance in his TV debut through "Spartacus." The late star became part of it in its three seasons between 2010 and 2013.

In 2011, he worked on its miniseries, "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena," and reprised his role as Rhaskos.

On Wednesday, his family held a funeral service for him at Pukekohe, Auckland. It remains unknown when he will be laid to his final resting place.

King's death came over a decade after "Spartacus" star Andy Whitfield also died in 2011 at the age of 39 following his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
