After "Transformers" star Shia Labeouf was reportedly removed from "Don't Worry Darling", director Olivia Wilde revealed the real reason for recasting the actor.

The hype for "Don't Worry Darling" has been building since the film began production in 2020. Initially, Shia Labeouf had been cast for the role of Jack until he was replaced with Harry Styles. According to Deadline, the decision had been due to scheduling conflicts but some sources claim that the "Disturbia" actor had been let go due to "poor behavior".

In a recent interview with Variety, "Booksmart" filmmaker Olivia Wilde gets honest and opens up about her decision to recast the 36-year-old actor. Labeouf had been fired during the film's early production in 2020.

"He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don't personally believe that is conducive to the best performances. I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work. Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job." Wilde explained.

"Don't Worry Darling" is a psychological thriller starring Florence Pugh as Alice and Harry Styles as Jack, a seemingly happy and normal wedded couple. The actress-filmmaker emphasized safety as one of the reasons she had to take into consideration.

"But for our film, what we really needed was an energy that was incredibly supportive. Particularly with a movie like this, I knew that I was going to be asking Florence to be in very vulnerable situations, and my priority was making her feel safe and making her feel supported." Wilde explained.

Shia Labeouf in Hot Waters?

The reveal comes as no surprise to fans as the "Honeyboy" screenwriter has been surrounded by controversy as of late since his ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit against him for sexual battery and assault.

However, the 36 year old actor denied "each and every allegation" in his ex-girlfriend's lawsuit. The only comment he had made about the allegations were in the form of an apology through an email to the New York times.

The actor has been a subject of controversial headlines since his admittance to court-ordered rehabilitation for disorderly conduct and childhood trauma. LaBeouf also sought treatment for his alcoholism in 2014.

Labeouf's trial date with ex-girlfriend FKA Twigs begins on April 17, 2023.
