"The Eyes of Tammy Faye" star Jessica Chastain opens up on how she really felt about her role in the upcoming thriller film, "The Good Nurse".

Jessica Michelle Chastain is an actress and film producer known for primarily starring in films with feminist themes. She made her television debut on Warner Bros' gothic soap opera "Dark Shadows". In 2016, the Oscar-winning actress launched Freckle Films, a production company headed by a team of female executives.

During a press conference at the Toronto Film Festival, Chastain opened up on her feelings about her upcoming lead role in "The Good Nurse". Chastain will be Amy Loughren, a nurse who suspects her friend and colleague Charles Cullen, portrayed by actor Eddie Redmayne, after a series of mysterious patient deaths.

"I've always felt a little dirty watching that stuff. We see often times a serial killer or a story that's fetishized. You see him injecting the bags." Chastain said, pertaining to true-crime genres. "I don't want the media to glorify what happened to another human being and I want to celebrate the humanity."

During the press conference, the rest of the cast echoed Chastain's sentiments, as they had openly discussed ideas to avoid misinterpretation by the Netflix film's audience.

'The Good Nurse' Inspiration?

The true-crime film takes inspiration from the real-life crimes of Charles Cullen, an infamous serial killer known for lethally overdosing up to 40 patients during the course of his 16-year career as a nurse since his first murder in 1988.

"The Good Nurse" is directed by Tobias Lindholm and the screenplay is written by Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Additionally, the film is also based on the 2013 book titled "A True Story of Medicine, Madness and Murder" by Charles Graeber.

How Chastain Coped With Her 'Terrifying' Role

Despite Chastain's initial feelings on the theme of the film, she expressed to The Hollywood Reporter that she now felt "proud" of her performance in "The Good Nurse".

"Of course, it was terrifying going through it. But watching Jessica, I was finally able to be proud. I didn't realize how gentle I was, because I'm such a badass," The 45-year-old actress expressed.

"The Good Nurse" is set to premiere this year on October 19, which can be streamed on Netflix. Alongside Jessica Chastain, the film stars Eddie Redmayne, Nnamdi Asomugha, Noah Emmerich, and Kim Dickens.
