Nolan Neal's cause of death has been determined months after he was found dead inside his apartment.

Initial reports shared that Neal died following his battle with substance abuse in July. His exact cause of death had not been determined until the medical examiner's office released the official report this month.

In a statement to Page Six, a spokesperson from the Davidson County Medical Examiner's office said that the late "The Voice" contestant died after suffering "acute combined drug toxicity." They reportedly traced acetyl fentanyl, methamphetamine, fentanyl, and morphine in his system and bloodstream.

Meanwhile, ET Canada noted that the coroner ruled Neal's manner of death as an accident.

Neal's battle with substance abuse resumed when he felt pressured while playing with the rock band, Hinder. In an interview in 2020, he revealed that he was battling with addiction while participating in "The Voice."

"I remember I got clean in 2010; on May 15, went to rehab. Stayed clean. I joined the rock band Hinder, they were all about drinking and partying," he told WBIR in 2020, per Billboard. "This is not their fault. I had decided I wanted to drink like a normal person. I remember trying to be normal and fitting in. I remember going to a bar and ordering a drink. I tried to hide it."

Neal's cousin, Dylan Seals, was the first one to find his body inside the apartment. At that time, he revealed that the singer "ultimately succumbed to his battle with substance abuse."

The authorities disclosed that they found a guitar pick that had powder residue in it and a note where he addressed his substance abuse issues.

Nashville's Medical Examiner's Office did not release any statement at that time.

Neal rose to fame soon after joining "The Voice" Season 15. Adam Levine added him to the team after listening to his audition performance of Incubus' "Drive." He then competed on "America's Got Talent" in 2020.

Following his death, Simon Cowell sent his condolences through an interview and called his passing a horrible event. He urged everyone to try staying positive and healthy as it will help someone prepare for tough days.

Neal's death came after he lost his father who committed suicide.
