The unveiling of the 2024 Oscar nominations brought surprises and disappointments, but one notable absence from the nominee list has sparked considerable buzz -- Leonardo DiCaprio.

DiCaprio's acclaimed performance as Ernest Burkhart in "Killers of the Flower Moon" failed to secure him a spot among this year's Oscar best actor nominees.

The 2024 Oscar nominations in the best actor category went to Bradley Cooper ("Maestro"), Colman Domingo ("Rustin"), Paul Giamatti ("The Holdovers"), Cillian Murphy ("Oppenheimer"), and Jeffrey Wright ("American Fiction").

"Killers of the Flower Moon" received 10 nominations in total, including best actress for Lily Gladstone, best supporting actor for Robert De Niro, best director for Martin Scorsese, and best picture.

Social media erupted with disappointment as fans and critics alike expressed their shock at DiCaprio's omission.

Comments flooded in, with one user on X, formerly Twitter, expressing disbelief, stating, "Leonardo DiCaprio getting snubbed again for the millionth time is actually insane. Him and Margot Robbie deserved at least a nomination."

Another user questioned Oscar voters' decision, saying, "The Oscar noms have been announced & once again, the academy decided to snub bae Leo DiCaprio! Honestly, is this some kind of joke?! What is wrong with the academy?"

"Leonardo DiCaprio gave one of the best performances of the year and was snubbed," a third person commented.

"[Two] months ago I thought it'd be impossible for Leonardo DiCaprio to not receive an Oscar nom for his powerhouse performance in 'Killers of the Flower Moon' but boy was I wrong," another wrote.

This isn't the first time DiCaprio has faced Oscar disappointment.

While he has been nominated seven times since 1994, he clinched his first Oscar win for best actor in 2016 for "The Revenant."

DiCaprio's snub wasn't the only surprise of the 2024 Oscars nominations.

Another notable omission was Margot Robbie for best actress for the "Barbie" movie. But with the film getting nominated for best picture, she is still up for an Oscar as a producer.

Charles Melton also failed to snag an Oscar nod for his acclaimed performance as a child abuse victim in "May December."

Fantasia Barrino and Greta Lee were not recognized by the Oscar voters for their roles in "The Color Purple" and "Past Lives," respectively.

In the director category, Greta Gerwig ("Barbie") and Alexander Payne ("The Holdovers"), who were both Directors Guild of America nominees for best theatrical feature film, were also left off the Oscar shortlist this year.

The 96th Oscars will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles on March 10.
