Dr. Jill Biden and Melania Trump have been in contact since the Trump family left the White House in 2021, according to a report.

The wife of President Joe Biden reached out to her predecessor at least once since becoming first lady, The New York Times reported, citing unnamed insiders with knowledge of their correspondence.

Dr. Biden reportedly sent Donald Trump's wife a card when Melania celebrated her first post-White House birthday in April 2021.

Two months later, Melania also sent the current first lady a birthday card to celebrate Dr. Biden turning 70.

As part of a first lady tradition, Melania left a letter for Dr. Biden before she departed the White House with her husband in January 2021.

However, according to the Times, Melania allegedly did not share any reflections or advice to her successor in her note.

Dr. Biden later spoke about the note in a 2022 interview, describing it as a "typical good-luck letter."

She revealed that Melania's letter was typed rather than written by hand, something the current first lady reportedly did not like.

"I do a lot of correspondence," Dr. Biden said of her preference for handwritten letters, according to the Times. "I know how important it is."

While it is unclear if Dr. Biden and Melania have reached out to each other since the birthday card exchange, the two were recently both spotted at Rosalynn Carter's funeral.

In November 2023, Melania, who has mostly stayed away from the limelight since the end of Trump's term in office, made a rare public appearance at the private tribute service for former President Jimmy Carter's wife at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church in Atlanta.

For the service, Melania donned a gray tweed overcoat featuring a small belt that cinched her around the waist, black heels, and black leather gloves.

Dr. Biden, for her part, wore a black long-sleeve shirt, black skirt, and black tights.

They were joined by Vice President Kamala Harris as well as former first ladies Michelle Obama, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton.

President Joe Biden and former President Bill Clinton also attended the ceremony to honor the late first lady.

Earlier this month, Melania made her first public appearance since the funeral of her mother, Amalija Knavs, who died in January.

The former first lady accompanied her husband to The Trumpettes gala, a ball held in Trump's honor at their Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The couple were seen sporting matching black outfits as they greeted guests.

In an interview with the Daily Mail, gala guest Delia Hickman said Melania was "all smiles" and looked at peace during the event.

"What I noticed in particular was that although everyone was waiting for Trump to make his grand entrance, when he walked in and waved at everyone, he made sure to turn to her and acknowledge that she was there!" Hickman told the outlet.

Hickman continued, "After he made his way to the podium, she was there standing by the stage the whole time, smiling. She waved and said hello to everyone that was close enough to reach out to her. She was all smiles. There was a look of great sense of peace on her face."
