A 38-year-old woman and a 56-year-old man accused of killing the woman's husband last month have been denied bond.

The Laurens Police Department Detectives Bureau achieved a breakthrough in a homicide investigation that initially seemed to be a natural death. Responding to the scene on Church Street in Laurens, South Carolina, on Jan. 22, officers initially determined Vadis Greene's death as a natural. However, further investigations and autopsy results unveiled that his cause of death was homicide by blunt force trauma, prompting detectives to suspect foul play.

"At the time, it seemed like a natural death," explained Lt. Brandon Davis of the Laurens Police.

"He had some hematomas that were unexplainable that were caused by an altercation that occurred prior to his death," Lt. Davis continued.

Police reported unexplained bruises on Greene's head, back, and legs, with the coroner subsequently determining his cause of death as a homicide resulting from blunt force trauma.

Meticulous investigative efforts, involving multiple interviews and search warrants, led detectives to identify the suspects as Ashley T. Greene, a Black female, and Terry B. Anderson, a Black male. Ashley was revealed to be the victim's wife.

“We believe it was a little bit more than platonic between the two,” said Lt. Davis, who reportedly suspects Ashley and Anderson engaged in a romantic relationship.

Both Greene and Anderson were apprehended on Thursday, and authorities confirmed their detainment in the Laurens County Detention Center without bond. Additionally, Lt. Davis revealed that investigators successfully identified a potential weapon used in the crime.
