Sean Garinger's mother, Mary Hobbs, told the The U.S. Sun that her son was relocating an ATV at his Boone, North Carolina, home to make space for her car. The ground gave way due to heavy rain and mud, causing the ATV to flip over, resulting Garinger's head being crushed.

"I ran to neighbors trying to get someone to help me get the ATV off of him. No one answered. I ran back to him," she said. "By that time, I realized he wasn't alive anymore. I just laid next to him until the ambulance showed up."

Watauga Democrat reports that the Watauga County Sheriff's Office (WCSO) responded to the scene with the fire department, medics, and police.

"Our hearts are heavy with sorrow for the loss experienced by the family and loved ones of the victim," the WCSO said in a statement.
