John Cena stole the spotlight at the Academy Awards on Sunday while presenting the award for Best Costume Design, opting for a nearly nude appearance cleverly covered by a placard bearing the words 'Costume Design' over his groin area.

Host Jimmy Kimmel aimed to pay tribute to the 1974 streaking incident involving the late Robert Opel, who streaked naked behind David Niven onstage during the Oscars, while Niven was introducing Elizabeth Taylor.

In the midst of the comedic act, Cena, 46, was backstage before playfully objecting to Kimmel's invitation to join him on stage.

"Dude, I don't wrestle naked, I wrestle in jorts," Cena said to Kimmel.

Kimmel, 56, responded, "Jorts are worst than naked."

The WWE star soon took center stage, using nothing but an envelope to cover his privates.

"Costumes, they are so important. Maybe the most important thing there is. I can't open the envelope!" Cena said before announcing the winner. Kimmel subsequently took the stage to announce the nominees.

When the moment arrived to declare the victor, the 'Argyle' actor was suitably adorned in a toga.

'Poor Things' secured the triumph, securing its third Oscar of the night. The film is currently making a significant impact at the Oscars, having previously winning Best Production Design and Best Hair and Makeup.

Business Insider reports Cena was not actually naked on stage, but was wearing a skin-toned protective garment to cover his private area.
