Two women were apprehended after allegedly discovering their elderly roommate deceased, driving him to a bank, and withdrawing money from his account.

In a statement issued by the Ashtabula Police Department, on the evening of Monday, March 4, at approximately 5 p.m., law enforcement officials were summoned to the Ashtabula County Medical Center following the arrival of 80-year-old Douglas Layman, accompanied by his roommates, Loreen Feralo and Karen Casbohm. However, the roommates departed shortly thereafter, leaving without providing any pertinent information to the medical staff.

Later that evening, following the initial visit to the medical center, one of the women reached out to authorities, providing some details about Layman's situation. This prompted the police to revisit the women's residence for further investigation and to conduct interviews with them regarding the circumstances surrounding Layman's condition.

Investigators claim that Feralo and Casbohm discovered Layman deceased within their residence. Allegedly assisted by a third individual, Feralo and Casbohm purportedly positioned Layman in the front seat of his vehicle and transported him to the bank, where they "withdrew an undisclosed amount of money from his account.

Authorities stated that the women positioned Layman within the vehicle "in such a manner that he would be visible to bank staff in order to make the withdrawal."

Following the withdrawal, Feralo and Casbohm allegedly transported Layman's body to the medical center and relinquished it to the staff.

Both women are charged with gross abuse of a corpse and theft from a person in a protected class, as per WKYC-3. Further charges are being considered and could be brought forward.

WKYC reveals that Casbohm was arraigned in court on March 5, where her bond was established at $5,000. Feralo's arraignment is slated for March 14.
