Michelle Obama had a huge surprise to fans who would purchase her book at the Target store in St. Louis.

The former first lady was recently in St. Louis to speak at the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, and she grabbed the chance to visit Target during the trip after learning that the store was selling paperback copies of her book, "The Light We Carry."

The paperback copy of the ex-FLOTUS' #1 New York Times bestseller was released on April 16.

"We are on a mission. It's a secret mission," Michelle said in a clip she uploaded on X, formerly Twitter, on Friday. "I had the crazy idea. I heard my paperback is out, and it's in Target, so we are going to go undercover because I have not seen my book actually in a Target store. So, we are going to try to do this low-key. Let's see how it goes."

Michelle explored the area and found her books displayed in the Book Club section. She picked one and jokingly said, "Should I do a reading here?" She asked one of her companions for a pen and signed a few copies of her book.

"Kind of surreal," she said. "There are six signed books here at the Target in St. Louis."

Michelle then went shopping and found a "cute" pair of a shirt and pants for herself. She was also filmed stopping by the Pet Care section and getting a toy for Sunny, the Obamas' pet dog.

Sunny is a female Portuguese Water Dog. The former first dog was with the family when they lived in the White House during former President Barack Obama's two presidential terms. She also bought something for her husband but not for their two daughters.

"Got something for me," Michelle said. "Something for my husband and something for Sunny. They girls, they can get their own stuff."

Michelle and Barack share two daughters -- Malia, 25, and Sasha, 22. The former first daughters are living together in Los Angeles.

The clip ended with Michelle paying for the items she selected, exiting the mall and getting into a black vehicle waiting for her.

"See you guys later, on the next cover operation!" Michelle said.

Earlier this week, Michelle announced the release of the paperback copies of her book on social media.

"Hi everyone, the paperback edition of "The Light We Carry" is out today," she said on X. "I filled the pages of this book with the wisdom and tools that I found most helpful along my life's journey."
