Queen Latifah Gay? Sexuality Not Discussed in New Talk Show [VIDEO]
Queen Latifah has a new show coming to CBS this Fall, but don't expect her to talk about her sexuality.
The 43-year-old Newark actress has battled gay rumors throughout most of her career in the entertainment business. She was previously linked to dating fitness guru Jeanette Jenkins after the two were spotted cuddling on a yacht back in 2010.
Despite the gay rumors, Latifah said she's not prepared to talk about her sexual preference on "The Queen Latifah Show," which is set to debut Sept. 16.
"I don't feel the need to discuss my private life on this show or any other show," the 43-year-old star told the magazine's Marisa Guthrie. "There's the part of my life that the public and I share together. And there's the part that's mine to keep for myself. And that's mine. For me," she said.
Executives over at Sony Television defended Latifah's decision to keep her private life personal.
"It's her choice what she chooses to talk about," Holly Jacobs, executive vp syndication and reality programming at Sony Pictures Television said, "It doesn't feel relevant to me because we're just making a big, entertaining show and celebrating all of life. There's a difference between talking about one's personal life and one's point of view and perception of the world and how they see it."
Latifah's life behind closed doors has been the subject of news headlines for quite some time now. In 2012, she reportedly addressed the crowd at a Long Beach, Calif. LGBT Pride event as "my people," fueling much speculation that she had officially come out.
The actress quickly shot down the rumors during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
"I've never dealt with the question of my personal life in public," she said at the time. "It's just not gonna happen."
