Sanders was publicly critical of their daughter Shelomi Sanders' decision to transfer from the University of Colorado Boulder to an HBCU, Alabama A&M. Now, her mother, Pilar Sanders, is speaking out.

Shelomi, 20, entered the player's transfer portal after one season with the Buffaloes. According to the Atlanta Black Star, the 5'6 baller played 11 combined minutes across five games. Her father, affectionately called Coach Prime, called his daughter's decision to transfer "stupid."

"You don't enter the portal - you get a team. You kind of get a team before you enter the portal," the college football coach said. "You don't - that's what I would advise a child. And I know, 'Well, it's illegal.' Come on, man ... everybody that knows somebody, knows somebody. ... You kind of want them to do something, and she has been truly advised."

"You gotta understand, I'm a father. I'm a real father. I'm a real man. I'm a real dad. Where I come from, historically, kids follow their parents. When do parents start following the kids?" Deion, 56, asked.

He continued: "That don't work in my book. That don't work where I'm from. I'm the leader of the family. So I've been dictating where my kids go. Not them dictating to me where I go. I'm happy, I'm cool, I'm sound in Boulder. I love it 100 percent, and we're going to build a monument."

On April 26, Shelomi, the former Dallas Cowboys great's youngest daughter was picked up by the Alabama A&M Bulldogs.

Pilar Sanders, who was married to Deion for 13 years, supported her daughter on Instagram

"You have the courage, confidence, strength, and character to go anywhere, the drive to be the best and WIN," she wrote. "So happy you're not settling, It's your life to live, so live it with love, passion, adventure and everything you've got!"

Pilar, 49, also addressed her ex-husband in a YouTube video, where she called his comments "disturbing on all fronts."

The former model described how their family all moved as a unit to support Deion's career, notably their sons Shedeur and Shilo, as well as their sister, committing to Jackson State University and then Colorado, as Deion changed universities.

"Stop talking about a present parent. Don't make me say more than I have to say stop talking about being a present parent," she said.

Shelomi's women's college basketball career has gone from Jackson State to Colorado to Alabama A&M, according to 'Sports Illustrated.' During the 2022-23 basketball season at Jackson State, she only played in 2 games and in Colorado, she also found herself with minimal play time.

She had an average of 0.6 points and 0.6 rebounds. Per S.I., her best game was against the Air Force Academy, where she scored three points and one rebound in two minutes of game action.

She will now play under new head coach, Dawn Thornton, who previously coached the women's team at UAPB.
