Kevin Hart’s Ex-Wife Torrei Hart Says She Was Bullied Online After He Married Eniko: 'They Demonize Black Women'
Torrei Hart detailed the online trolling she endured when she divorced her famous ex-husband in a resurfaced clip.
Torrei, who appeared on "The Culture Club" in December 2021, described how "In the beginning it was hard. It's hard of course but I feel like — if I'm really being honest — it's more so they demonize Black women" when it came to her public separation from Kevin Hart.
"Especially dark-skin Black women. Because that's what I've seen in the media and what I've dealt with," she continued. "I mean even when he moved on to a new relationship. It was like, 'Oh, he's got a come-up 'cause she's lighter or whatever.' "
The 46-year-old continued: "Once he started putting out pictures of us all together as a family unit, there were a few pictures that went viral [from] birthday parties. I was the one like if we're going to be a family and we're gonna show the world that we're doing this, they should see the positive too."
Torrei went on to say how the responsibility to address trolls who attacked her and their new blended family fell upon the 'Lift' actor, but understands why he may have chosen not to.
"In the beginning he might have felt like he was being pulled in two different directions because he was in this new relationship and then it may seem like, 'I'm trying to get back with my ex-wife from doing too much to appease her. So how do I handle it?' So he might have been in a tough situation because of that," she said. "Or she could have been feeling some type of insecurities."
Kevin and Torrei first met in 2001 in Philadelphia while attending community college. They both shared a passion for comedy, Hot New Hip Hop reports.
After their engagement eight months later, they married in 2003 in a private ceremony. Two years later, they welcomed their first child, a daughter Heaven Leigh, and a son, Hendrix, three years later.
Eight years of marriage passed when the couple filed for divorce. Torrei later claimed to PEOPLE Kevin cheated on her in 2009 with his now-wife Eniko Parrish, something Eniko vehemently denied.
The 'Night School' star has openly admitted to cheating on Torrei in his early comedy specials, but never clarified when he started dating Eniko. During an interview on 'The Breakfast Club' in 2016, he called Eniko, 39, his "rib."
"It's too risky to cheat," he said.
