Rory McIlroy Divorce Called Off Because He Didn't Want To 'Lose Half Of His Money': Report
Rory McIlroy may have abandoned his plans to divorce his wife Erica Stoll partly due to how much money he would lose in the split, according to a new report.
Just weeks after filing papers to end his marriage with his wife of seven years, the golf superstar called off the divorce Tuesday.
While McIlroy said he did a U-turn because he and Stoll patched things up, an unnamed insider suggested to the Daily Mail that part of the reason may be that the 35-year-old Northern Irish pro golfer wanted to avoid paying Stoll, 36, a massive sum.
"There are lots of rumors swirling that he's done this because he realized how much money he would lose. He's definitely a man who likes his money," said the source, who was described by the outlet as a "friend" of McIlroy's.

The insider noted that for pro golfers like McIlroy, their prize money is "a direct reflection of how good they are."
The so-called friend added that McIlroy may have also called off the divorce because he realized he would not be able to see their 3-year-old daughter Poppy as often and would struggle without having a partner who provides "the stability that he desperately wants and needs."
"His wealth is a sign to him of how good he is as a golfer, and he won't be keen to start splitting that," the source told the outlet. "I think it could be a mixture of the realization that he won't see as much of his daughter and will lose half of his money that has made him rethink."
McIlroy is estimated to be worth $170 million thanks to his golf prize winnings and off-field ventures, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Forbes recently named McIlroy the second-highest-paid golfer in the world for 2024 after he earned a total of $83 million over the past 12 months.
McIlroy filed for divorce from Stoll on May 13, stating in the documents that their marriage was "irretrievably broken," according to Page Six.
The golfer also said they have a prenuptial agreement, though the details were not disclosed.
But on Tuesday, their divorce case was closed after McIlroy's lawyer submitted a notice of voluntary dismissal to a Florida court.
In a statement to The Guardian, McIlroy said, "There have been rumors about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to each rumor is a fool's game."
"Over the past weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future was as a family together," he added. "Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and look forward to a new beginning."
Shortly after filing for divorce from Stoll on May 13, McIlroy was romantically linked to CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis, who recently interviewed him after he won the Wells Fargo Championship.
Balionis is married to football coach Bryn Renner, but their marital status was called into question earlier this year after she was spotted without her wedding ring.
However, Us Weekly later reported that McIlroy and Balionis are not dating and that their relationship is strictly professional.
