Police released DMX from custody Wednesday but placed him under house arrest after he was taken in for possession of marijuana in South Carolina, TMZ reported.

The 42-year-old rapper was a passenger in a truck that was pulled over by police for making an illegal u-turn. DMX, a.k.a Earl Simmons, was arrested when the police found out that he had an outstanding warrant for driving under suspension. They also found marijuana in the truck. Simmons and the driver, 39-year-old Anitra Shalawn Rhodes of Greenville, were charged with possession of marijuana.

DMX smelled like he was drunk and was in possession of marijuana at the time of the arrest, according to police reports cited by the website. The officers proceeded to search the car and found three more bags of weed under the driver's floor board. The report also said that DMX became "very aggressive with his words and was making multiple idle threats."

Domenick Nati, a spokesperson for the rapper, said in a statement to The Associated Press that Simmons was traveling with his assistants and had no drugs on him when police searched the truck.

Below is the statement from DMX's rep:

"DMX was driving in the passenger seat when the vehicle he was in was pulled over last night. Although officers pulled them over for a minor traffic violation, DMX was asked to step outside so they can search the vehicle. Officers then claimed that they found bags of marijuana in the floorboard and arrested X. No drugs were found on DMX or the other passengers and the alleged bags of marijuana were never shown to DMX or the other passengers. DMX was released this morning at approximately 11am EST and is back at his home in South Carolina."

Earlier this year, the rapper filed for bankruptcy and was also found sleeping in a cop car following a possible DUI.
