One of the most important roles for Man of Steel 2 may have been cast recently.

Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) will allegedly be playing Superman's (Henry Cavill) nemesis Lex Luthor in Man of Steel 2, according to a recent report by Cosmic Book News. Cranston allegedly has a deal to appear in at least six films as the villainous Lex Luthor, and could appear in up to 10.

This news has been largely unconfirmed, since neither Warner Bros. nor Cranston himself have given any indication that the casting is true. Cranston's menacing performance on Breaking Bad led to many people to speculate that he would be a good fit for Lex Luthor. This news may just be rumors that have escalated.

Similarly, Ben Affleck was not considered a contender to play Batman despite the announcement on Aug. 22 that he would be playing the iconic superhero. Other actors like Orlando Bloom and Josh Brolin were presumed frontrunners to play Batman but neither ended up being a serious contender.

Affleck allegedly signed a deal to play Batman in up to 13 films, which is a very high number that may prove false as more information comes out.

Along with the news of Cranston, the Cosmic Book News report states that Matt Damon might be signing on to play Aquaman in a future DC film in addition to Mark Strong playing Sinestro for the second time after his stint as The Green Lantern's nemesis in The Green Lantern.

Until more credible reports come out, fans should only be confident in the casting of two roles: Affleck as Batman and Cavill as Superman.

Man of Steel 2 is scheduled to come out in theaters on July 17, 2015.
