The rumored addition of Julianne Moore to the Hunger Games:Mockingjay cast was confirmed on Friday by Lionsgate, the studio behind the film.

She will star opposite Academy Award winnner Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in the third and fourth installments (Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1& 2). Moore takes on the role of President Alma Coin, the leader of the rebellion against the Capitol. After being rescued by the rebeles, Katniss (Lawrence) agrees to join and become a Mockingjay only if President Coin grants immunity to all of the Quarter Quell participants and bestows Katniss with the right to kill. Coin is a manipulative figure in the book.

It was reported in June that Lionsgate and the film's director, Francis Lawrence, were eyeing Moore to play the role of Coin.

Hunger Games: Mocking Jay Part 1 will release in theaters November 2014 and the second part is scheduled for release in November 2015.

Moore won an Emmy for her portrayal of Sarah Palin in HBO's Game Change last year. She is playing the mother's role in the remake of Carrie, directed by Kim Pierce and co-stars with Jeff Bridges in Seventh Son, which releases on Oct. 18. Moore also stars in Don Jon with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Scarlett Johansson. The movie premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and will see its theatrical release on Sept. 27.
