Walking Dead's Laurie Holden signed on to play the female lead in Dumb and Dumber To, Deadline reported Monday.

Holden will be co-starring in the sequel alongside the original duo: Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels. She will be portraying Adele Pichlow, the wife of a wealthy doctor who has gotten herself into some major trouble and exploits Harry Dunne (Daniels) and Lloyd Christmas (Carrey) to cover her tracks. The film take place 20 years after Carrey and Daniels set off on their first adventure.

The film is being directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly and is being financed by Red Granite in collaboration with Universal.

Carrey announced news of the film going into production on Sept. 8 by tweeting a picture of Lloyd's iconic chip-toothed grin:

The movie had its share of problems in the development stages. Warner Bros. dropped the sequel and in July Red Granite was suing the producers of the original film, Brad Krevlor and Steve Stabler, to exclude them from the project.

Daniels confirmed in July, while on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, that the film was on and shooting would begin in September.

"It'll be the 20th anniversary of the first one next year when it's released," he said of the sequel. "I've seen the script. It's hysterical. We're middle-aged. We're not pretending we aren't. We're middle-aged and we're still that stupid."

He also said that the script was "painfully funny."

Holden has worked with Carrey before, playing the role of Adele Stanton in The Majestic.
