NBC officially announced the premiere date for season 5 of Community on Friday.

Community is set to debut on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014 at 8 p.m. on NBC, according to an official press release from the network. The season premiere will be an hour long, with two episodes filling up the 8 p.m. - 9 p.m. hour. The show will then airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. for the rest of the season.

Season 5 of Community will see the return of showrunner Dan Harmon, who was fired by NBC after season 3. There will be several other changes to the show, as Chevy Chase will no longer appear on the show as Pierce Hawthorne. Additionally, Donald Glover - who plays Troy Barnes - will only be appearing in five episodes of season 5 before leaving the show for personal reasons.

There will be several new and returning guest stars in season 5. New guest stars include Nathan Fillion (Castle), Jonathan Banks (Breaking Bad) and Walton Goggins (Justified). Among returning guest stars, the season will include LeVar Burton (as himself), Rob Corddry (lawyer Alan Connor), John Oliver (Prof. Ian Duncan) and Brie Larson (Abed's crush Rachel).

As for new concepts Community will be trying this season, Harmon teased, "We're gonna do an animated episode," saying that there "won't be a lick of live-action."

He also said that he wants to do a parody of a disaster movie for one of the episodes but admitted he's still "working out the kinks."
