Jennifer Lawrence has become one of today's most popular movie stars and has inhabited a number of complex roles in her young career.

Before her star-making role as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games franchise, Lawrence worked her way up through TV appearances and indie films.

Lawrence's first major role was in the TBS sitcom The Bill Engvall Show. The show aired for three seasons and featured Lawrence as the daughter to star Bill Engvall's character.

The actress soon took Hollywood by storm with her starring role in the 2010 indie drama Winter's Bone. Then a relative unknown, she received an Oscar nomination for her performance as Ree Dolly in the film.

She made appearances in a few indie films before making her big blockbuster debut as Mystique in 2011's X-Men: First Class.

Lawrence then starred in her most widely recognized role as Katniss in The Hunger Games in 2012. She capped off 2012 by starring in the romantic comedy-drama Silver Linings Playbook. She won an Oscar for the role at the tender age of 22.

Lawrence is following up her Oscar-winning role by reprising her roles in sequels to The Hunger Games and X-Men. She will reunite with Silver Linings Playbook co-star Bradley Cooper in late 2013 in the '70s drama American Hustle.

Here's a look at Lawrence's humble beginnings all the way up through her future projects.
