Selena Gomez talked about what kind of girl she is when it comes to relationships and falling in love in her cover story for the December/January 2013 issue of Teen Vogue.

The 21-year-old said she does whatever she wants to feel "human and normal," but even that has its limitations -- especially in the area of romance. The Come & Get It singer talked about losing control in midst of her emotions taking over when she loves someone.

"You fall in love and it completely consumes you," Gomez told the magazine, out on news stands Nov.19. "So a part of you is broken when that's gone. And part of you wants to have that rebellious feeling where you're just like, forget it-I can do anything I want. I've tried it, and I've never been that girl. I'm always going to be the girl you want to take home to your parents, not for the night."

Gomez split from Justin Bieber, her last serious boyfriend, earlier in 2013. She is currently on her Stars Dance world tour promoting her latest album by the same name.

"My attention span is all over the place, and I overthink things," Gomez said. "I'm an insomniac. Dancing allows me to go away and not have to think of what I'm doing next. That is the opportunity for me to really escape."

Though not commenting on her love life directly, the Texas native said she is learning to accept both good and bad situations as learning experiences.

"I like to say I have a good sense of judgment, but I know that not everybody does," she said. "The older I've gotten, the more I've learned that I have to open myself up to all opportunities. Maybe I'll get burned and not meet the right people, but I won't know until I do it."

Even with much success in both her acting and singing careers, the Spring Breakers star does not know where the future will take her.

"I'm 21, so now I've entered the decade of confusion about who I am and what I want to do with my life, and that's what this entire decade's going to be," she said.
