The new trailer for The Legend of Hercules shows lead actor Kellan Lutz (Twilight) as the mythical Greek hero fighting against the tyranny of the empire.

In the clip Lutz is seen revolting the status quo and being shunned into exile, bought as a slave and made to fight as a gladiator. He was cast off after it was revealed to the kingdom that he was in love with the princess, who was betrothed to someone else. He is determined to gain his freedom and save his love Hebe, the princess of Crete, played by Gaia Weiss.

"I will not stop till I have returned the princess and avenged my loyal friends," he said.

It is later revealed to him that he is the son of Zeus and has access to extraordinary powers.

The screenplay of the film, which has been directed by Renny Harlin (Nightmare on Elm Street, Die Hard 2), was written by Sean Hood and Daniel Giat. The Legend of Hercules will release on Jan. 10.

In a recent interview with Access Hollywood Live Lutz revealed that he was originally approached for the lead role of Edward Cullen in Twilight, but turned it down.

"The role [Edward Cullen] just didn't... I just didn't care to entertain it," Lutz said. "I really wanted to play a happy role or no role for a little bit."

He also gave his reasons for not wanting to play Bella Swan's vampire lover: "I didn't care to audition for [the role of Edward] because he was a bit moody and emotionally challenged. But then I loved Emmett... I'm so blessed to have been able to play him."
