Johnny Depp will be heading to some very hot climates for his next project.

Norwegian directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg will film Pirates of The Caribbean 5 - titled Dead Men Tell No Tales - in both Puerto Rico and New Orleans at the end of the year, Deadline reported Wednesday, Jan. 15.

Depp will reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the film, set for a 2016 release. Among other confirmed returns is Geoffrey Rush as Barbosa, Keith Richards as Captain Teague and Kevin McNally as Gibbs.

Inglorious Bastards actor Christopher Waltz is reportedly in the running to take on the role of the film's villain, Captain Brand. Penelope Cruz, who played Angelica Teach in Pirate's 2011 film On Stranger Tides, will not be taking a starring role. It is possible she could make a very small cameo, MailOnline noted.

The new installment of the Disney franchise has Jack and his team in search of The Trident, which Teague holds valuable information to. Brand is a ghost that wants the Trident so he can get his revenge on Jack. The antagonist believes Jack turned his brother Eric into a pirate, which led to his death.

Jack also finds a new love interest in Barbosa's daughter Carina Smyth, rumored to be played by Vicky Cristina Barcelona star Rebecca Hall. Script noted obtained by Daily Mail revealed, "She falls for Jack as their adventures keep them together, but he rebuffs her advances in fear of angering Barbosa." She is a woman in her late 30s who is called a witch by some but is really an astronomer.

The website Bleeding Cool published details on the film's plot. The major points revealed include the following:

  • Witches are a big part of the movie.
  • One of the film's leads is a ghost and he's a "former member of the British military now sided with Barbossa on a revenge mission."
  • Two new, young, romantic leads - a boy and girl - both from farming families get caught up in the mix.
  • The film stars with an "awkward wedding" and ends with "a riff on the myth of the Bermuda Triangle."

The article stated the farm boy and girl are "pure subplot fodder" and could easily be cut from the final storyline.
