The release date for Pitch Perfect 2, the sequel to the 2012 musical hit, has now been confirmed.

The film will hit theaters on May 15 2015.

While not much else has been revealed about the film, the director was recently announced. Actress Elizabeth Banks (The Hunger Games, Zack and Miri Make a Porno) will be making her directorial debut with Pitch Perfect 2.

Donna Langley, the Chairman of Universal Pictures, the studio that's backing the film, spoke about the decision of getting Banks on board with Variety.

"Elizabeth originated the idea for Pitch Perfect and was instrumental in making the first film such a huge success," Langley said. "She brings an enormous amount of energy and experience to everything she works on and we're thrilled that she is making her first feature directorial debut on Pitch Perfect 2."

Banks also played the role of Gail Abernathy-McKadden, a commentator for the ICCAs, in Pitch Perfect.

The writer of the original film, Kay Cannon, will be taking on scripting duties this time around as well.

Thought there is no word on whether the cast of the original film will be reprising their roles, it seems like a strong possibility as in December last year they got together to record an 'all-a capella' album for Christmas.

At last year's MTV Teen Choice awards, Skylar Astin, who won an award for best actor in a comedic role, rooted for the sequel to go international, speaking about his wish to shoot the sequel at "a really cool location" and try to "see different countries' perspective on a cappella."

The 2012 musical comedy was directed by Jason Moore and starred Anna Kendrick, Astin, Rebel Wilson, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Ester Dean, Alexis Knapp, Adam DeVine, and John Michael Higgins.
