Lady Gaga confirmed on twitter that she is set to star in her first film, "Machete Kills" with director Robert Rodriguez.

The "Born This Way" singer tweeted: "Yes its true, I will be making my debut as an actress ln the amazing MACHETE KILLS BY @RODRIGUEZ IM (sic) SO EXCITED!!! AH! Filming was insane."

Gaga sent the message to her 27 million Twitter fans after the director couldn't contain his excitement. Rodriguez announced the pop star's casting on Twitter first:

"I just finished working with @LadyGaga on @MacheteKills , she kicked SO MUCH ASS! Holy Smokes. Blown away!"

"Machete Kills" is a sequel to his 2010 film, "Machete" starring Danny Trejo. E!Online reports that the "Fame" singer is playing the character called "La Chameleon."

Lady Gaga strikes a topless pose on the movie poster with Marilyn Monroe-inspired hair. Holding a smoking gun in her hand, she has a fox fur draped around her waist while wearing only thigh-hi pantyhose.

Rodriguez recently tweeted another cast member for the film, "Anger management" star Charlie Sheen.

"I just cast Charlie Sheen in #machetekills as the President of the United States! Who better? More soon..." he tweeted.

The film company behind the sequel, Aldamisa Productions, issued the following statement about the film's plot:

"Machete is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. He must battle his way through Mexico to take down a cartel leader."

Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez will return to the sequel. In addition to Lady Gaga, Vanessa Hudgens, Mel Gibson, Alexa Vega, Zoe Saldana, Amber Heard have also been casted.

Robert Rodruiguez has a cult following for his other films including "Desperado," "From Dusk Till Dawn," "Spy Kids" and "Sin City."
