The royal nanny who looked after Prince William and Prince Harry for over 15 years passed away September 25 at the age of 82. The nanny reportedly collapsed earlier this week outside her home which had led her to be in a critical state.

Britain's Mercury publication, reported that an ambulance was summoned right away. Ambulance Service spokesman Gary Sanderson told Mercury: "We were alerted to a report of a woman who had collapsed along McKenzie Road in Broxbourne at 10:09 a.m.. A paramedic response car and an ambulance attended the scene." After being treated at the scene, Powell was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital where she later died.

A spokesperson for the Royal family said in a statement: "The two princes have been informed and they are both very saddened by the news, as you can imagine. They have nothing further to say at this juncture."

Powell had been with the two princes throughout much of their early lives at Kensington Palace  She cared for Prince William when he was six months old and continued to work for the Royal family after Prince Harry was born. She has stayed on when Prince Charles and Princess Diana divorced, including Diana's death in 1997.

Powell had considered Prince William and Prince Harry to be "just like any other children" and like her grandsons. She told the Mirror  in April 2011: "I have a very normal relationship with them. Their upbringing was very normal and their parents wanted them to have as ordinary a childhood as they could. If they saw a muddy puddle they wanted to jump in, and if there was something to climb, they wanted to climb it."

According to the Inquisitr, the late nanny only just wrote to Prince Harry last week, expressing her concern for his safety after it was reported that he was the target of a Taliban attack in Afghanistan.
