After her divorce from husband Tom Cruise, actress Katie Holmes seems to be getting herself back on track as she made her first curtain call Monday night for "Dead Accounts," her newest play on Broadway.

Although critics won't get the chance to officially weigh their opinions about the performance of Holmes for a while, early reports from the play claim that her performance "earned cheers," The Washington Post reported.

The play, which is in previews, will officially open Nov. 29.

The story of the play surrounds a brother, a sister, and a surprise reunion that turns their family upside down.

"Dead Accounts" was premiered worldwide last winter in Cincinnati.

A preview for the one on Broadway was originally scheduled for Nov. 3, but the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy forced producers to postpone the start of the performances, People magazine confirmed.

"Dead Accounts" is a family comedy written by Theresa Rebeck, the creator of "Smash." The play also features Judy Greer from "Arrested Development," and stage actor Jayne Houdyshell. Houdyshell received a Tony nomination for "Follies."

Norbert Leo Butz, who won a Tony award for "Catch Me if You Can" is also featured in the play. He plays "a prodigal son who returns home to his Ohio family - and Holmes plays his skeptical sister who awaits him," Playbill reported.

According to People, Holmes received applause for an improvisation when a phone she was using in one scene broke. The actress fixed the phone on the spot, punctuating her dialogue by slamming it into place.

The audience also enjoyed a monologue she performed about the greed in Wall Street.

This is not Holmes' first time appearing on Broadway. She made her debut in 2008, for a revival of Arthur Miller's "All My Sons," which she and the rest of the cast received a standing ovation from the audience.
