'Batman v Superman' Director Zack Snyder Explains How Batman Has An Advantage Over Superman

The trailer for Chi-Raq was released online this week, giving fans a taste of Lee's latest social commentary. The film centers on gang violence in Chicago and stars an incredible cast of mostly black actors, including Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Angela Bassett, Dave Chappelle, La La Anthony, Jennifer Hudson and Samuel L. Jackson.

Chi-Raq is a modern-day adaptation of Lysistrata by Greek playwright Aristophanes, a play about a woman who sets out to end the Peloponnesian War by persuading other women to withhold sex from their husbands.

In the Chi-Raq trailer, we see women mobilizing and agreeing to deny sexual privileges to the men in their lives as a way of stopping the gang violence in Chicago.

Lysistrata, who is played by Teyonah Parris in the film, creates a mantra for her fellow women to abide by: "I will deny rights of access and entrance." The mantra becomes a movement as we see the women become more steadfast in their pursuit to end the violence.

Lee is well known for his political commentary on the African American experience, and this film looks to be reflecting our times of continued violence within the community combined with female empowerment.

Chi-Raq will be released in theaters on Dec. 4, with Amazon Instant Video streaming the film shortly after.
