The "Twilight" star is in Australia to shoot the futuristic film with his co-star Guy Pearce, 8,000 miles away from his on-and-off again girlfriend Kristen Stewart.

Pattinson was photographed filming in an isolated area of the Southern Flinders Ranges, just outside of Adelaide.

Pattinson has sported a shaved only once before, in 2012. He shocked his fans when he stepped on stage to accept the Favorite Drama Movie award for 2011's Like Water For Elephants at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles on January, 2012.

Pattinson's fans went wild when he hit the stage because he is known for sporting a short spiked haircut or a Elvis Presley-inspired pompadour when he played Edward Cullen in the "Twilight" films. So when he stepped out with a shaved head, the pictures went viral in many reports.

A source explained the reason for the haircut at the time- Pattinson decided to to shave it all off and start from scratch so "it will grow back to normal" because he went through various hair changes while filing 2012's Cosmopolis.

"All the stuff he had to do for Cosmopolis really messed up his hair," an insider told Hollywood Life. "It was all over the place and in different lengths. Then he had to cut it again for re-shoots, and while it sort of grew back for the Breaking Dawn premiere, it was a little off still."

Pattinson arrived in Asutralia on Jan. 17 a few days after he presented at the 2013 Golden Globes.

His on-and-off again Kristen Stewart has yet to be seen Down Under with her "Twilight" co-star but Pattinson has been spotted enjoying himself without his girlfriend.

He went for a joyride on a motorcycle and was pulled over by Australia police for riding without a helmet and has been seen hanging out with his male buddies at pubs and photographed many times with female fans at several different outings in Adelaide.
