At the EE BAFTA Awards held on Sunday night the Ben Affleck-directed picture Argo took home the award for Best Film and its director took home his own award that night as well.

Affleck won Best Director, an award many thought he deserved since he was not nominated in the category in the Oscars. The James Bond thriller Skyfall was awarded Best British Film at the ceremony held at London's Royal Opera House. The film's screenwriter and producer, Michael G Wilson, took the award from presenters Bradley Cooper and Ben Affleck, and told the audience, "This is a first for Bond." Director Sam Mendes thanked the film's production team and praised actor Daniel Craig's "sheer bloddy mindedness."
